The Liberal Mom on Border Control

Okay. What can I say? The truth of the matter is, is that we all seem to agree.

I love areas that are culturally diverse. The way that other people live their lives has always been very interesting to me. The different religions, the different traditions, the different definitions as to what family is or what it is suppossed to be ... the food. The food is usually pretty flipping good. Fact is, I want my daughters to grow up knowing that people are different. There will be children sitting next to them in class, who believe in a different God, eat different things, do things different from them.

So that being said, I have no problem with people coming here to live.

What I do have a problem with, is people doing it illegally. A bigger problem, that the process to become legal, is long, and very hard. So I understand. Do I think it should come to extremes like the Texas Minutemen? No. I think the government should be doing their job, and making borders more secure, while making it easier for someone to become an American citizen.

Instead, illegals come across the borders, get hired for jobs that actual citizens could use, live in America without paying taxes, YET, are able to get services from the tax payers own pockets. That isn't right, and why the government has continued this, I do not know.

Why don't they set up a program for illegals? Fact is, these people leave their homes for a reason, and they need help. If a person gets caught entering the country illegally to get a job, why don't they set up a program where a full security check is given, they provide shelter and food in a building, (kind of like a homeless shelter), to wait out the process of becoming an official citizen, then help them get on their feet? That way, yes, it would take some tax payers money, but it would be going to someone who is trying to become a legal citizen.

In the process of waiting, maybe they could get training for jobs. Trades, for example, and teaching people how to speak English, if they don't already, or to read and write, if they can't.

The benefit? Creating a lot of new jobs for people who need them in a new system, and some new citizens going out into the country, paying taxes, and enjoying the freedom of America, without stealing to do so.

Anyways, as a person who believes that all people should be treated fairly and equally, I think there are many solutions to this problem. The government just HAS to step up to the plate, and figure out a way to be firm about where the country's money is going, but also be diplomatic and willing to lend a hand to it's neighboring people, who are screaming, for an opportunity.

GOP Mama Tackles the Border...

After reading Miss Lib R Tea's post, I have to say, I completely agree with 99.9% of her post... therefore, it was a struggle for me to figure out where we actually differed.
Ok, so maybe it wasn't that hard to figure out ;)
I firmly believe that anyone who is here illegally should NOT have access to any rights that Americans are fortunate enough to have, including health care, education, & housing.
However, I do think that our borders NEED to be secure and if that means that we need to hire private agencies to patrol them like the Texas Minutemen, then so be it. I don't think we would need to even worry about throwing illegals out of the country if they weren't able to cross into it...

Let me be clear as well, I am not a completely heartless person and I do realize that many people flock into America because our country is abounding with opportunity. I am a supporter for opening the borders for work VISAS and I would also like to see the US make it a bit easier for people to apply for and become citizens. I am amazed at the many, many hoops that are required for perspective US citizens to jump through and yet how easy it currently is for illegals to obtain the many securities that too many Americans take for granted.

Ms Lib R Tea on Border Control

America is a nation of immigrants, put together by people from all over the world who came here for a better, more prosperous life. That legacy of hard working people building a nation of liberty and prosperity is something that I would like to preserve for my children, so I gladly welcome all immigrants. SO LONG AS THEY ARE HERE LEGALLY.


I don't think we need border patrols to make sure that all immigrants are here legally-all we need to do is make sure that if you are in this country illegally you can't touch a single solitary American taxpayer funded program. No welfare, no food stamps, no medicaid medicare or public hospitals, no police, no fireman, no schools...you're welcome to come here but if you touch a tax funded program before you fill out the paperwork, become a citizen, and contribute your share you'll be booted back to the Mother Country before you even realize what's happening.

Why? Well, this is America. Everyone is welcome, and we'll all benefit from the contributions of foreign workers and naturalized citizens-but if someone who is not paying taxes touches tax payer money that's stealing....and call me old fashioned but I have a very strict "no stealing my money" policy.

This idea has already proven to be effective. Oklahoma passed a bill with these ideas, House Bill 1804, and it is estimated that thousands of illegals fled the state rather than be discovered using public systems and deported. If every state passed a law like that, I think we could solve a lot of the problems that illegals create (tax burdens and unsolvable crime for example).

My great great grandparents on my Dad's side were Irish immigrants. They came here starving potato famine survivors, they followed the law, they took nothing and worked their tails off farming and working on the railroad. My maternal great grandfather escaped Nazi Poland and worked until his son became a NASA engineer-if you're going to dream big, America is a great place to do it.

So because my family comes from immigrants, does that make me a hypocrite? No. I whole heartedly invite every immigrant to come to America seeking the same opportunities my grandparents had. To work their own land, with their own hand, and prosper. It is an amazing opportunity that we should share with everyone willing to bend their backs and make their own way...but illegals who come here and live off of the hard working American citizens-both born and naturalized-should be gone, and take their debt/bills/entitlement issues with them.
